She's changed her name twice, her hairstyle once, and her mind...never. My first inspiration for Too Much Heaven's Sam, owner of The Detention Room and friend to Petrichor, was the great Thandie Newton, particularly her role as Maeve in Westworld. She is the most compelling character on that show (get on the train, Maeve!), and her strength and resolve were the early building blocks for Sam.
But the more I kept writing her and kept seeing her, the more she began to take on bits and pieces of a different legendary woman, one a bit closer to home: my mom.
